Poker, I Barely Know Her!
It’s not whether you won or lost, but how many bad beat stories you were able to tell. — Grantland Rice
I am an advanced beginner poker player.
(Is that a real classification? 🤷🏼♀️Probably not, but it’s how I see myself.)
I first started gaining an interest in poker waaaay back when MySpace existed.
(I never really got into MySpace because FB came out shortly after I signed up and we ALL know how that worked out.)
Therefore, my friends consisted of Tom and Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari. I remember messaging him (Esfandiari not Tom) and saying “I’m playing in my very first poker tournament today” and he responded!
I promptly geeked out. 🤓
I lost that tournament early on with a K4, but this started my love for poker.
Before my first tournament I had only read one book by Phil Hellmuth. It was valuable and probably would have been a huge benefit to my noob playing if I had followed it, but alas I was “feeling” my K4. 🤦🏼♀️
(If you’re a beginner poker player I highly recommend reading as many books on the subject as possible, watch people play on YouTube, and play in as many low level games as you can.)
I’ve now been casually playing poker for about 10 years. I still consider myself a beginner but my dream is to be the first female to win the WSOP main event. So, with my husband’s encouragement, tomorrow I’ll be traveling to Vegas to give it a go! Wish me “break a leg” and subscribe to my blog to stay up to date on the Little Actress That Could Play Poker (hopefully). 😬
Side note: You know you have an amazing circle of friends and family when they all support you and cheer you on! I am truly blessed to be surrounded by amazing people that always support my fun endeavors and side businesses.
